4 top interior design trends for 2017

From glamorous bedheads to eco-friendly cork in the home, this spring will bring a whole host of wonderful new trends to inspire your space in 2017. Here’s our round-up of some of our favourite trends for the coming season.

1.Terracotta

Instantly adding worth to a home, terracotta tiles are coming back in this season, but with a much sleeker, pared back look.

“Unlike in the 80s, they aren’t used as border tiles. Instead they will have a natural matte finish and be used as feature walls in bathrooms or for cladding fireplaces,” says Lauren Macer of Sisalla Interior Design.

“I think that by avoiding terracotta tiles that are too rustic and keeping with a matte finish, this trend could add character and warmth to interiors again.”

2. Cork

Eco-friendly and versatile, cork will be showing up in your home in 2017 and it looks fabulous combined with glass, metal, ceramics and timber. From cork walls and tabletops to glassware and lighting, it will be a big trend to come.

These pendant lights from Beacon Lighting were styled by Channel 9’s The Block Josh and Jenna.

3. Upholstered bedheads

A shortcut to making your bedroom feel like a luxurious hotel suite, add a stylish upholstered bedhead. It can be made from a plush velvet or a classic model with buttons - it’s a quick and easy way to add some glamour to your home. Check out some great options from Snooze this season.

4. Tribal inspiration

According to design trend forecaster Victoria Redshaw, one of the biggest trends for the coming year is what she calls ‘Desert Wanderer’, inspired by faraway tribes from Morocco and South America.

“This trend has a minimalist ethos, with a meditative slow, calm element to it. It represents a respite from our fast-paced lives,” she explains. The colour palette features muted spicy tones like saffrons and cinnamons and soft pinks, mauve and indigo, with some metallic accents such as copper and silver.
